Two minutes silence
Completely ignored by everyone at the Royal Mail (of all places) depot in Leeds.

Becoming a thing of the past innit?

Sad really.

Re: Two minutes silence
Correct, it is about all wars, but mostly about the big 2.

Most people born in the last 20 years don't care about Aden or Malaya or know where they are/were. One of our 2 political parties openly supports the other side in Northern Ireland and they're very close to being elected.

We're also importing countless people who have zero sympathy with "our side" in Iraq and Afghanistan, to put it diplomatically.

I'll still make an effort as its how I was brought up, but if you're expecting everyone else to 50 years from now you're much more optimistic than me, so fair play I suppose.

Exactly, this isn't just about the biggest and baddest wars, its about all of the wars.

Those lost or injured in Afghanistan and Iraq are just as important to remember as those lost in WW2 etc. Anyone not taking the time to pay their respects to the ultimate sacrifice is a cunt in my book.

Daft statement MiM and spot on Cough... whack in Malaya, Aden, Kosovo, Northern Ireland and plenty of others.. and even in peacetime plenty of servicemen are lost in tragic accidents.

Re: Two minutes silence
It's not just the two world wars but as I understand it's for all those who have died in the line of duty, so the Korean war, Vietnam (for Australia) Falklands, Afghanistan etc etc

Re: Two minutes silence
On a long enough timescale the percentage of people in this country who've personally known someone who fought in one of those wars will drop to zero.

Will drop to 50% within many of our lifetimes.

Eventually it'll be seen like trying to consecrate the Napoleonic wars.

A lot get the day off today here, but we also have the ceremonies today.

Generally still well observed except amongst the young.

It's only the Woke tossers on this site who get upset about others not adhering to the 2 minutes silence like a flock of sheep.

Was in primark when at 11 they made an announcement that they will be observing the 2 min silence.

Apart from 3 cheeses shouting (it seemed) in their bloody fuck you bloody accents the whole time.

Was going to tell them to shut up but would probably be called a racist so didn’t bother.

If a large proportion of the UK (workforce) has no personal connection with the 60s, let alone the 40s (because none (NONE) of them were fucking here), they won't have anything to remember.

I'm working at a MOD site on a project for the forces and there are 15 of us in the office. 2 of us stopped what we were doing.

Nearly everyone I work with is an army vet :(
